Tokyo Magnitude 8.0
The premise of the project is the 70% or higher possibility that a magnitude 7.0 earthquake will occur in Tokyo in the next 30 years. The anime will depict what would happen if an 8.0 earthquake took place. The story will center on Mirai, a middle school freshman girl who goes to Tokyo’s artificial Odaiba Island for a robot exhibition with her brother Yutaka at the start of summer vacation. A powerful tremor emanates from an ocean trench, the famed Tokyo Tower and Rainbow Bridge crumble and fall, and the landscape of Tokyo changes in an instant. With the help of a motorcycle delivery woman named Mari who they meet on Odaiba, Mirai and Yutaka strive to head back to their Setagaya home in western Tokyo.

I never though that I will be liking this series. I watched this late and is not even in my priority list. I even thought of dropping this but good thing for me, I decided to continue to watch this one since this is really a really great anime!
Animation wise, it is really, really, really great!!!!! The 3d effects are well made especially during the earthquake scenes. They are all properly simulated and for me, it clearly depicted what could happen when an earthquake hits Japan. It also shows how ready and how prepared Japan is in terms of disaster management.
The story really caught me and as I mentioned, I cried! I didn't expected that the drama would be this intense and so heavy. The catch of the story was well hidden and properly presented that when the truth was revealed towards the last part, you would be really be shocked on the turn of the events.
If there's something that I realized when I watched this series, it would be how important my role with my brothers and sisters. Like Mirai, I am an elder sister and my siblings are under my care. I kinda understood how Mirai most of the time and I too would feel crazy if I am in her situation.
Anyway, this is a very unique series that I really recommend to everyone. You might find Mirai bitchy and stupid at the beginning of the series but as the story progress, you will also feel sympathy towards her.

ReplyDeleteI cried. ;(
I agree with your assessment. And to think that I almost skipped Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 out of a belief that it would be just another ho-hum series ...
