Episode 24: Confrontation

Reiji tells Elen that he will handle Cal personally. Although Elen allows him to think about it, she leaves school early without informing Reiji. She apologises to Reiji through voice mail, saying that she didn't want him to kill Cal. She tells him to escape without her and promise to catch up with him once she rescued Mio. Under captivity, Mio tries to convince Cal that Reiji isn't what she thought he was, but Cal is too bitter and hateful to accept her words. However deep down, she pines for Reiji. Shiga reports Mio's kidnapping to old Godoh, her father and leader of the yakuza. He suggests having their retainers to intervene but her father chooses to let Inferno take care of the matter, preferring not to get too much attention with Mio. Scythe prepares to unleash his Zahlen Schwestern on Elen, Reiji and Cal. Cal calls Elen to meet for their duel and releases Mio. Elen arrives to Mio's location and reveals her and Reiji's true identities as assassins. She tells Mio that she won't be able to help Reiji. Mio feels helpless as Elen leaves to duel with Cal, while Reiji searches all over for her.
This episode reflects Cal's sadness and the pain that she has kept inside her over the years. Personally, I believe that Mio helped Cal so that she can learn to accept what she really felt deep inside. Cal really became emotional when she had an encounter with Mio. Mio asserts that she love Reiji so much that she is willing to do anything for him. Cal became aggravated that she tore Mio's uniform making her almost naked. Mio passed out while Cal cried her heart out.
Elen is on her way to confront Cal and to save Mio. This is against what Reiji really wanted since he wants to protect Elen. But Elen wanted to settle this herself so that he could protect Reiji. She said that ever since Reiji called her Elen, it has become her mission to protect him. If he survives and continues to live on, it is an enough proof that she became alive too. Cal called Elen through Mio's cellphone and they arranged that they will meet somewhere at 3 AM and this was overheard by Mio.
When Mio and Elen finally met, Elen confirmed the truth about her and Reiji's true personality as assassins. It was a bit shocking at first but Mio's love for Reiji is enough for her to still be on Reiji's side. Also, Elen brought her a change of clothes.
Master, on the other hand are also preparing his Zahlen Schwestern (German term for Number Sisters) against Elen, Reiji and Cal. He said that his dream where his creations would fight against each other would soon come true. Crazy old man right?
Mio was left helpless. All she could only do was wait and watch things to happen from afar.
Episode 25: Conclusion
Mio was successfully rescued by Shiga. She was safely returned to her mom whom she talked to about the truth regarding her dad. Her mother explained everything - his father is alive and Godoh Daisuke was her half brother. Her mother said that their life right now is the lift that his father longed for so they should try to live to the best that they can.
Mio then returned to her room to talk to Reiji who is busy looking for Elen and Cal. Mio told him about what she overheard and told him that she is willing to wait for him to come back. This is not yet time for goodbye for the two of them as Mio is always ready to welcome his very dear Reiji back.
So where was the fated place for Cal and Elen to fight? It is in the church where Elen and Reiji usually spent their time. Reiji was able to find Elen there, praying. He was able to convince Elen that he will be the one to finish off Cal since this is the seed that he previously planted. The both of them promised to each other that when everything is over and one, they would both find the way for them to attain true freedom.
Before going to the chuch, Cal is all alone drinking. As though she is already drunk, she saw visions of Judy, Lizzie and some guy that I don't recognize talking some sense to her. She is just seeing hallucinations of the people that she cares about. With this, she again cried herself out.
When Cal arrived at the church, what she saw was Reiji waiting for her. They had a death match, a duel. Similar to what Cal loves to do, she would open her pocketwatch and when the music stops, they would both draw their guns. The first to shoot obviously wins. Who won? It was Reiji!
Before Cal took her last breath, she had a talked with Reiji. She said that she is already contented and satisfied and so happy that he was able to meet Reiji. She thinks that if only they have met on a very different way, then things would have much, much better.
Elen is outside stopping the Godoh Group from interfering from the match between Reiji and Cal. Apparently, Shiga is determined to kill Phantoms since they placed Mio on a great danger. After Reiji's duel, he went out saying that he will kill in order to live.
Master then arrived along with his masterpieces as his dream stage is about to start.
What I really find touching is Cal's dream with Reiji. This dream shows what could happen when Reiji and Cal met after the explosion. Cal is happily driving with Reiji and it seems that they are both living happily together.
Now that Cal is dead, the only problem remains is Scythe Master.
