Valkyria Chronicles - Episode 18

Welkin continues his stupidity in this episode. Well, somehow I understand why Welkin is acting so weird and sometimes stupid. With his previous pain about Faldio showing his love for Alicia, and now that his well-loved sister is dead, that would be a big blow for him. Because of his statue as a Commander and since he is unable to express his feelings effectively, he gets really confused on how to feel, how to act, and how to relate with other people. I think he is using defensive mechanisms to hide what he really feels both to Alica and to Isara.

Welkin's tendency to cope up with pain is to accept responsibility for everything that has happened. He wants to bury himself with punishments and self-pity and in effect, he is distancing himself to the real world, when in fact people would want to share with his sorrow and pain. He shuts himself inside a world where nobody, not even Alicia who accidentally blurted out her feelings for him, can reach him. He even got knocked out by Faldio because of his recent behavior.

If we are talking about the person who is so much affected by Isara's death, it is Rosie who keeps being haunted by her death. When Isara died in her arms, Isara gave her the smile that she would always remember all her life. She told this to Welkin and Alicia but Welkin coldly responded that it's not her fault that Isara died. At the end of the episode, Rosie sang in front of her grave, fulfilling the wish of hearing her sing.

As for Lamar, he is also deeply affected by Isara's death. He got angry at Welkin after telling everybody to quickly forget about her. He also visited Isara's grave and brought her flowers. Together with Isara, he listened to Rosie singing Isara's favorite song.

General Damon heard the smoke bomb that lead to the victory of Squad 7 and wanted to know who created it. When Damon saw the Darcsen symbol on the Edelweiss, he stomped on it. This pisses Rosie the most when she attacked Damon. Welkin apologized and took responsibility for what happened. As a punishment, Damon demanded that he will prepare the blue print for the smoke bomb or else, he will treat the incident as a military offense. To get back to Damon, members of the Squad 7 decided to put a trap just for him.

This episode has also hinted about Alicia's relation to the Valkyur as the ragnite that Faldio gave her glowed.

As usual, the one who saves the day is always Faldio. He saw Alicia crying after talking to Welkin. At first, Faldio tried to talk as casual as he can but when he can't get any response from Welkin, he punched him right at his face. He reminded him that he is not a god nor a hero and as such, he don't need to be responsible for everything. Faldio also talked to the angry Squad 7 to stop creating the trap since it's not the best revenge that they can do. What they can do is to keep on winning their battles and bring peace to everybody. It is only through this that they can bring justice to Isara's death.

Despite the sad atmosphere of this episode, I still can't help but smile because of Faldio being a knight in shining armor especially when Alicia is crying! How I wish I have a guy like him!
