Episode 61: The One Who Devours God

It kills me to be delayed in watching FMA. I have very little time to watch and to do my posts for FMA. But all thanks to the holiday yesterday (due to the inauguration of the 15th President of the Philippines), I get to watch Episodes 61-63.
But then again, life is back to normal and I am not permitted by time to do posts until 63, so I will post this by batch.

The town of Amestris has become a ghost town after the nationwide transmutation done by Father. However, the human sacrifices are still alive and okay in Father's chamber and has realized that everybody in the Amestris has become a philosopher's stone, and that Father has already devoured God. Along with this, Father has already assumed a new face: a blond long hair and facial features much like similar to Ed's.
Everybody else starts to fight back but Father disables alchemy throughout the area. He then decides to form a small, mini version of a sun to start blowing his enemies away, but this didn't happen because he starts to loose to his power.

Hoenheim explains that the Amestrians are still connected to their bodies and that he strategically placed his Philosopher's Stone in different areas, just for this special moment. Using the eclipse's shadow and the strategically located philosopher's stone, a transmutation circle is formed. And this circle saved the people of Amestris and they all came back to their bodies well.

Because Father does not have the enough amount of stone in his body to contain God, he is having a hard time. However, he is not yet ready to surrender and starts to attack once again. May saves them with her alchemy and Hoenheim stood as a wall to block the attack. Ed and Al supports their Father as they desperately wait for Scar to do something else.

Scar and Wrath is still busy fighting each other below. The eclipse is about to end and Wrath gets blinded by the sunlight and Scar used this opportunity to rip off Wrath's both arms. However, Wrath was still able to give Scar a fatal wound.

Lying down on the ground, heavily injured, Lan Fan finds him and aims to have her revenge. Lan Fan asked him for his final words but Wrath says he do not have one. Lan Fan gets frustrated that Wrath cannot give a message even for just a family member, a wife, friends or whoever else is important. In his final moments, Wrath says that living with humans has given him a bit meaning for his life. As he dies, Lan Fan gets a bottle of Philosopher's Stone. Then, Lan Fan helps Scar to bring him to the human transmutation circle. It is then revealed, that Scar will activate a reverse transmutation circle to bring back alchemy in the area.

With alchemy back, Ed starts to fight back and they all destroyed Father's throne. Around that time, Scar is explaining to Hawkeye that his brother designed this reverse transmutation circle after doing an extensive research. This circle will neutralize Father's circle of sealing alchemy and at the same time, unlock the power within the earth, much like similar to Alkahestry. Because of the unlocked power, Ed can use much more powerful alchemy, and yet it is not enough to injure Father. Hoenheim says that they should just continue attacking, until Father's stones runs out. Father just simply flies off to the surface.

Hoenheim realizes that Father surfaced to create Philosopher's Stone to replenish what was lost. Everyone decides to go after him, including Greed who arrived to join the attack. But Pride decides to stop Ed and so he was left to face the child homonculus. Meanwhile, Izumi and Al met up with Olivier. They leave the blind Mustang, but it appears Mustang is still ready to fight, and he will need Hawkeye's help.

Back to Ed and Pride's fight, Ed wonders why Pride follows a Father who doesn't care about them at all. Pride doesn't listen to him at all and wants to transfer to another container. He is eying Ed's body but this was stopped by Kimblee's soul. Pride is so surprised to feel Kimblee's presence and Kimblee says that the souls' anguish are just a lullaby for him. Kimblee doesn't like the idea that Pride is trying to take someone else's body despite his dislike for humans. Kimblee's interference gives Ed more time to enter Pride's soul and eventually turn Pride to his very small embryo form. Instead of killing Pride, Ed promises Selim Bradley that he will be back.

  1. Poor Father, truly God for only 5 minutes.
I like how they put in that part about the souls having been placed into the earth; I had always thought he was just absorbing them. I guess that is what they wanted us to think, though. I also like how supposed dead characters keep making little appearances that are important to the story.

My brain is foggy, so I cannot remember much about this episode! I will try harder to remember the others!

  2. The dead play an important role too~ They helped make their battle with Father a huge success.

  3. Pride being alive at the end of the series really highlights a big theme overall: “pride” keeps us going.

A majority of the characters showed a lot of pride in themselves throughout the series.

I actually wrote about how the series shows that pride can be beneficial for survival. You can read it at: http://www.mangatherapy.com/post/806561122/pridesymbolism-fma
