Episode 59: Lost Light

Things are starting to get really excited. Only a few more left and both the manga and the anime will end. For the meantime, it really broke my heart to see Roy incapacitated by the lost of his sight.

In the previous episode, Riza is badly injured after her throat has been slit open to force Mustang to do human transmutation. However, Riza didn't want Roy to do it, so she tells him not to do. Well, if we thought that Mustang agreed to do the taboo, we are so mistaken! His "I will do it" answer is not for Gold-tooth but for Riza, promising that he will not agree to do the human transmutation.

The Chimera boys along with May came to the rescue and helped Roy from the pinch they are in. Jerso grabbed Gold-tooth with his saliva. The doctor dropped his vial of philosopher's stone which May was running after in the middle of the fight. She then hears Mustang worrying over Riza and May rushes over to use alkahestry to stop the bleeding.

After healing Riza, May proceeds to look for the stone but the vial was picked up by Wrath, who came wounded. He (again) survived the waters by swimming through the sewers and finding his way back. Wrath asked Mustang if he would consider human transmutation if someone close to him to will die and Mustang answered that his old self may have considered it, but now that there are a lot of people supporting him, he doesn't need human transmutation anymore.

May feels the powers of Father then suddenly, Jerso gets cut up and fell to the ground along with the doctor. Pride arrived in the scene. Wrath then plunges toward Mustang and stabbed Mustang in the hand, placing his hand on the floor. Pride then pierces Gold-tooth and creates a transmutation circle. Pride forces Mustang to open the Gate with the help of the doctor who has the formula to do human transmutation. With this, Mustang is now the 5th sacrifice.Pride disappears along with Mustang, leaving Wrath with Scar and everyone else. Knowing that Father is underground, Scar blast a huge hole in the ground and faced Wrath one on one.

At the Gate, Mustang meets Truth and afterwards, he is transported to Father's lair, where Ed, Al and Izumi are. Pride also arrives. Ed rushes to Mustang side, telling him where he is right now. Ed checked if Mustang is missing any body parts then suddenly, Mustang says that it is too dark to see. With this, it is already realized that Mustang lost his vision, in exchange of committing the taboo.

Pride explains that they forced him to do it since they need the 5th sacrifice soon. Father and Pride explained Truth's irony: Ed, someone who wants to stand on his own lost his limbs, Al who longs to feel his mother's warmth lost his whole body, Izumi who wants to see her child lost her reproductive capability and Mustang, who has a fixed vision of the future lost his eyes as a cost of attempting human transmutation. Ed doesn't accept this, especially for Mustang who was only dragged into doing the transmutation.

Wrath and Scar start to fight. Wrath asked for Scar's name, and he answered that he is nameless. Incidentally, Wrath also didn't know his real name. With this, the duel of two nameless people will be something interesting to watch.

At Father's place, Father notices something is disturbing above. May Chang suddenly arrived and she saw a lifeless Al lying. He calls for Al to wake up. At that time, Al has met his body at the gate. As they are about to be reunited, Al didn't continue after realizing that his body is malnourished and weakened. Returning in such state would really be at a disadvantage since he cannot fight. He wished to return to everyone else with his armor body. Al promised his body that he will definitely be back to come and get him. Al's body is proud of his soul's courage and is proud to be the container but warned Al's return may only bring despair and ruin.

In the real world, Al finally wakes up and Father is ecstatic that all of his five sacrifices are now ready.

  2. I know right? I can't believe it is already SO CLOSE to the end.

Hmm...I felt the same way tooo. Probably, they cut short the moments since a lot will still happen and it won't fit in one episode. Hahahahaha.

Fear the Wrath of Roy, you pathetic non-human! Dx`
Besides that, this episode had some very WIN moments. I am so proud of Roy for saying no, and GUH ALPHONSE! That was win, but in a bittersweet way. How is he going to get back?! T_T
